FAQ’s

How long does a newborn photography session take?

My newborn photography sessions can take up to 4 hours as it is completely baby led and all depends on how baby settles. But, please do not worry, I have a lot of patience and don’t mind waiting for baby so we can capture the perfect shot. It is very normal that the first hour or so will just be trying to settle the baby and get them into that deep sleep.

What if my baby doesn’t sleep during the session?

If you use the tips I provide you with before your session and your baby is warm, fed and content – he/she will often fall asleep. It may take a while but I have some well practised techniques which usually work, but it all depends on each individual baby. This is why the shoot can take up to 4 hours.

What if he/she has a little ‘accident’ during the shoot?

As most of the poses are done with baby’s nappy off it is inevitable that they will pee or poop on the beanbag, props, me or even you!! Please do not worry or apologise to me, this is just what babies do, and I couldn’t do this job if those things bothered me! They really don’t! I have special pads underneath my beanbag fabrics and I can always change into spare clothing if anything does happen. It might be worth while you bringing a spare shirt incase this does happen to you. I wash all my blankets and props used after each session. Just have some baby wipes or cotton wool & water on hand.

What do I need to bring?

Firstly, you will need to bring plenty of milk. Babies tend to feed more than usual during their newborn photography session. You should also bring spare nappies, wipes, a warm blanket and a dummy (if you use one). Dummies have been found to be really effective in settling and soothing newborns and it can make the session quicker and more straight forward.
I will provide refreshments but if you would like to bring something for lunch, then please feel free.

Will the photos be retouched?

The final images you view are professionally, lightly retouched and enhanced by hand to remove blemishes or marks that wouldn’t normally be there.

I shoot for sharpness! This brings out all the little details of baby like their precious eyelashes and whispy hair… But this will also enhance every newborn spot and flake, so I will then soften and lighten red blotches, skin flakes or spots to bring out the natural complexion of your little baby. I edit each of your images by hand and this process is totally unique to your session! Unless you request it, we don’t remove birth marks or defining features.

What happens after the session?

2-3 weeks after your session you will be emailed a link to your online private gallery where you can view. From there, you can choose your favourite images, which I will then upload to a USB and send to you.

Can I share my images on facebook?

Many of my clients are excited to share their images with their facebook friends! After your session, I post a “sneak peek” image to my facebook page. This is one fully edited image that you are able to tag yourself and the family in, which will then appear on your profile! (This image isn’t for downloading or cropping).    You will be provided with a set of watermarked “web size” images on your USB for you to share online along with your high resolution images for print. These are perfectly sized to look lovely online and are watermarked for your protection as this stops your images being copied or stolen.
